Lens-Artists #203: Local SoCal Vistas

Anne hosts the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge (LAPC) for this week, and asks us to show off our local vistas. I tend to get carried away with travel or animal photos, and I don’t always stop to appreciate the vistas in my local area. I am very lucky to live in a fairly green area (our town has a groundwater basin that’s doing ok), and I get to drive down to the beach often. Here are some of my local photos that I am proud to show off. All of them were taken within a mile of my house in Redlands, California.

Some of my local trails provide excellent views too. All of these are close enough to walk to, but sometimes I will bring my camera gear, which requires me to drive. Sharing for Cee’s Flower of the Day (FOTD).

Since I love to visit the beach at least once a week, I am including vistas from the one I visit the most–Crystal Cove State Beach. I consider it to be my local beach. Crystal Cove has many views, which is part of its charm. Believe it or not, all of these photos are from the same state park. The first two were taken last weekend. I love the June gloom and the peacefulness that it brings. Sharing for Jez’s Water Water Everywhere and John’s Cellpic Sunday.

  2. Stunning, Dawn! Your backyard looks absolutely amazing! I haven’t been much to the Redlands area of SoCal, but I’ve seen those snow-capped mountain vistas on many winter drives as we’ve traveled from Sacramento to San Diego along the 210, heading south at the 15. What gorgeous views you’ve captured! And nothing wrong with that June gloom! I’ve heard the heat is on down south, probably just in time for our arrival to San Diego in 2 weeks. Great to see your link again this week!

    1. Thank you! 😊 It’s “hot” in Redlands at 84 today, but probably closer to 100 at end of the month. Usually it’s hot inland and foggy and cool at the beaches. I say hot in quotes, because I lived in AZ and NV for years before coming back here. I’m guessing San Diego will have amazing weather when you visit!

  5. Beautiful vistas Dawn. we’ve traveled to CA many times a we have friends in SF, LA, Santa Monica and San Diego. Somehow I’ve never thought of CA as mountainous but obviously it is! I loved the snowy mountain vistas in your opening images especially. And your backyard looks like a perfect place for peaceful pondering – what could be better than that?!

    1. Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed them. One of my vista shots of the Angeles forest is actually the eastern edge of the mountains by LA (which are on fire right now), and San Diego has some big peaks with snow too. The peaks in my opening shot are at 11k and 13k feet! We have the Sierras up north, so CA has a lot of mountain ranges. It’s such a big state that we have a wide range of biomes here. 😎

  10. Wonderful views and your firepit and yard look lovely. He-man was just saying we need to get the cover off our firepit and go out back for an evening drink this week. I have to make sure my bug zapper is ready though. The mosquitoes are awful this year here!
