Hawaiian Lava Rocks

Oahu has a few volcanic craters and a lot of lava rocks around the island, creating a beautiful contrast of colors; sharing for Terri’s Sunday Stills – Monthly Color Challenge: Lava.

There’s definitely a lot of different areas to view volcanic rock in Hawaii. The lighting, cloud cover, time of year, and tides seem to affect the colors of these beautiful rocks–it’s all fascinating to me.

  1. You make lava look amazing, Dawn! I’ve been to many parts of Oahu, particularly Waikiki–I remember that man-made lava rock wall. The Big Island also has many of those brick walls, especially on people’s private property. Must be plentiful 😉 Those black sand beaches on the BI are truly spectacular as well. Great to see your post!

    1. Thank you! 😊 They do use that lava rock for the beach houses in Kailua too. Unfortunately, it’s caused the beach to erode away. I got sidetracked by a sea turtle and didn’t swim over to that area—that would have been the only way to get photos of it. I hope to make it to some of the beaches in your photos too. Lots to explore! 😎🌺

  2. Beautiful pictures! The lava just adds to the beauty and mystery of Hawaii. No wonder every person who visits can’t wait to go back.
