On my recent trip to the coast, there were so many things to take in and enjoy, such as these ice plant flowers growing by the beach. I love how ice plant has adapted to thrive in the ocean air, even on cliffs. I am sharing for Cee’s Flower of the Day (FOTD).

Wow we get these in South Africa too. Are they indigenous there too?

I’ve always seen it here, but I looked it up and found out that it is invasive. It was planted by the railroad companies in early 1900s to prevent erosion, but it grows quickly and everywhere (as I’ve seen), choking out all other plants and changing the soil composition. So, I guess it’s pretty to look at, but bad for other plants. 🙄🤓

Ice plant is an interesting and beautiful plant near the ocean..you captured its color and uniqueness. I enjoy ice plant in my yard to remind me of the beach.
