Capturing nature's peacefulness one photo at a time.

I am an avid nature and ecology lover and enjoy sharing my photography in my blog writings. I will often be out early in the morning or late in the evening with my camera, trying to capture the peacefulness and beauty around me. View more posts

Thank you! Just got lucky with the eagle chilling out on a huge tree near our trail up to Heceta Head Lighthouse in Oregon.

Thank you! I know you’re well-versed in eagles…how can you tell this one is female?

Female raptors are 1/3 larger then the males.
So the head to beak ratio is different.
Basically the beak is larger. The only way you would ever notice that is If a pair were perched close to each other or you’ve watched many eagles over the years.

Wow! That’s amazing you can tell. I knew females were larger but didn’t know enough to tell them apart unless they’re together like you said. It’s definitely not easy like some birds where the male is brightly colored and the female is not, etc. Thanks for sharing!

Your welcome Dawn.
It’s the old 10,000 hour rule.
For instance…….If you hang around horses for 10,000 hours you’ll be able to see things most cannot.
Eagles are just a different arena.
