CFFC: California Flag Colors

Since I am a native Californian, I chose the California flag for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge (CFFC): Colors of Your Flag. I found some interesting colors in my peaceful yard to match the California flag colors, and because some are flowers, I am also using it for the Cee’s Flower of the Day (FOTD) challenge.

Dwarf Japanese maple tree at start of winter (pine needles from nearby trees drape it after a storm).

On the first day of winter, I managed to capture a few remaining red leaves on my dwarf Japanese maple tree using my 70-300mm DSLR lens. Having just returned from the midwest where there are no leaves, this is a nice treat and a reminder that I love California’s weather.

I also did not know that this giant succulent in my yard, the Jade plant, blooms in the winter — of course I had to take some photos of those flowers! Most of the petals are in the shape of a star; the pattern reminds me of the star on the California flag.
