On a recent visit to the San Diego Safari Park in Escondido, California, this interesting and not-all-that-shy black-crowned night heron flew right up to the honeysuckle in front of me. Luckily, I had my 300mm DSLR out and was already taking photos of the flowers (and trying in vain to get the hummingbirds in a shot), when this heron landed and posed for me; I am sharing these lucky shots for Cee’s photo challenge – Flower of the Day (FOTD).

Beautiful shots and lovely heron. I haven’t been out to that area in many years (Oct 1989 only two weeks before the earthquake) but I hope to return some day. Thank you for posting such pretty photos
